Proposal
for Music Magazine
My music magazine will be called ‘Fever,’ It shall be predominantly an indie music magazine focusing on specific bands such as Two door cinema club, Alt j and solo singers like Jake Bugg. My magazine will be aimed at young teenagers both male and female who enjoy listening to the bands and other indie bands. Also it will have elements of indie films which will have been seen by many of the targeted age group for example the ‘Breakfast Club’. The style of my magazine will be very laid back and relaxed it shall have a colour scheme of black and white and with images predominantly being and whit with dark beige for main article pieces, this will help them to stand out but at the same time link in with my laid back style. I will mostly be doing pieces like profiling specific bands finding out details about that band, things that fans will be most interested in. For example tour dates and secrets within the band. That band will be the main cover image that is used, helping the magazine to entice readers, readers that may not have read before.
I will also include pages which will be showcasing the specifically important things going on in the music world this year for example tour dates of bands and singers pictures from festivals and music gossip. This shall be appealing to music fans.
I will include special offers for clothes and concert and festival tickets on competition pages. Also things that would relate to the specific band that I used that week, like band merchandise.
For my magazine I would want an organised look to my magazine but also a look that suggests a laid back feel which will appeal to my target audience of teens. As I am a teen myself I feel that I know what would look good in a magazine like this, and I could make my magazine fit in well with the particular genre. I will also include fashion in my magazine mostly festival fashion something which my target audience will be interested in as they are always looking forward to the next festival.
I want my magazine to be different from others in my specific genre. I want it to stand out and be able to entice readers. I will sell my magazine for about £1.50. I think this an accessible prize that many teens and young adults could afford.

This DPS is an
interview for kerrang magazine with the band A fire Inside. The main
image is a medium close up of the band's front man Davey Havok, his
gaze is looking straight ahead showing direct address which shows he
is looking right at the reader. His pale black and white t-shirt
blends in and links to the colour scheme of the article, giving it a
cool and laid back feeling maybe linking to the personality of Davey
Havok this is also shown by his pose, his hands loosely hanging by his
side and his head tilted to the side. This links to the target
audience, fans of the band A Fire Inside , teens around the age of 16
and upwards.
The colour scheme all follows the same pattern of black and white but uses pink to highlight the most important parts of the title and the stand-first. The name of the band his name and the themes of the article. This will help readers to decide weather to read or not, if the interesting parts of the article stand out to them.
The Stand-first gives additional information about the band for example an upcoming tour and the lead singer talking about his own specific style, things that will appeal to fans of the band.
The Drop capital at the top indicate the beginning of the article also using The drop capital for the name Davey.
The pull quote 'Do I ever have a casual Friday? Absolutely!' is used as the title to the article as well, this gives an insight into what the lead singer is like as a person and in his ordinary life this again is something that the fans of the band would be interested in. The bold use of font helps to show the more interesting and upbeat part of the article for the reader. Also the use of bold font on the positive and upbeat words also helps to give the article a certain upbeat feel to it. The DPS also has a single promo on it giving the name of Kerrang's website allowing for fans of the magazine to be able to access it and get the newest and up to date new in the world of music.
The page number in the bottom left corner links to the contents page making it easier for readers to find specific articles that they are interested in which is especially good for fans of the band A Fire Inside so that they don't have to sift through pages of things that aren't relevant to what they want to read about.
The many different conventions of the double page spread show different things about the band, like the personality of its lead singer and how that may affect the music the band makes, whilst also appealing to fans and potential fans.

The music
magazine Q has used well known singer Lana Del Rey as their cover
star, thus appealing to a younger audience, and to reach out to the
followers Q magazine already has. Whilst sticking to the regular
colours of Q magazine red and white they use pink to highlight the
cover line making it clear to the reader who it is in the picture,
and what the main feature will be in that issue. The colour pink and
the tiara suggests a girly image that links to Lana Del Rey but
contrasts to the red blood running down the side of her face showing
a more edgy side to her which links to her music.
The main image of Lana is a medium close-up using direct address her gaze is as she looks at the camera casual and laid back this may also give us an insight into her music style and her personality. Also an added image is the Q magazine logo a signature we immediately associate with it, and this also brings to mind the other forms of media Q has for example the very well known music channel.
The strapline 'So whats so bloody good?' indicates what the article may be about and intrigues us as readers, we want too know what is good about Lana? The cover also shows other stories the article covers things there to entice the reader. For example the article the other story 'Fights! Feuds! Feathers! Kings of Leon fall apart.' The three alliterated words written in pink catch the eye of the reader so that fans of the band will be intrigued and want to read on.
Coverline 1 is attracting readers to another main story in side the magazine and adds the professor Green track as a sort of prize to the reader if they buy the magazine. The advertisements of different articles within the magazine show the variety that it has which is another selling point for many readers today.
The use of texts are what we are used to seeing on the front cover of this magazine and many others the block capitals are eye catching and and bold and the colours are simple but stand out on the page. The text used to write the name Lana Del Rey is girly and gives the idea that it has been drawn on with lipstick. This again shows the feminine side to the magazine's main story. But also contrast with the image which shows her in a different light, with the blood running down her face. The fact that she is wearing a white dress suggests innocence but along side the use of the red blood which we associate very much with danger offers something a little more edgy, which may then link us to what her music may be like and her personality.
The Promo used on this magazine cover '26 festivals to blow your mind' is appealing to the younger generation of readers that Q magazine has, its publication in February 2013 is showing upcoming festivals giving inspiration for young teens for the summer, which again helps to appeal to a specific audience. The bold colours yellow on black ensure that it is eye catching for the reader.
The front cover of Q magazine uses many of the different conventions of a typical Magazine front cover, all these add up to create a specific type to appeal to a specific fan base, whilst also using new ideas and branching out from the norms of that publication to ensure that more people enjoy reading Q magazine.

Genre - Genre is a particular category in which something falls e.g a book a film or a magazine. It is helpful for the audience to be able to choose what they would prefer to read especially with music, for example there is many different genres; pop, rock and indie.
sub-genre - Sub-genre is a division within genre for example books you have thrillers as the main genre and then crime thrillers as the sub-genre.

Hybrid-genre - this is combing two different genres together this then means there will be elements of both. For example magazines that look at both music ad fashion, or gossip and fashion.
